About the playwright:
Sarah Kane (Sarah Kane) Sarah Kane (Sarah Kane) has been hailed as the greatest British playwright since Shakespeare and Harold Pinter. Over the past decade, her works have been staged around the world and have had a profound influence in Europe and North America. In Germany, she is widely recognised as the finest playwright of the late twentieth century. The Times described Sarah Kane as “a highly original playwright who expresses extreme emotions with strange beauty and terrifying honesty.” Her works reflect her deep concern for contemporary society and her compassion for humanity. The 2005 Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Harold Pinter and the renowned contemporary playwrights Caryl Churchill and Edward Bond all held her in high regard. Sarah Kane’s works are rich in dark humour and poetic language. Her observations of human nature are incisive, and she has been called “the only contemporary writer with the stature of classical art.” Through the disordered language of her dialogue, she conjures a dark realm that we cannot understand or describe through everyday language and knowledge; yet, on a subconscious level, we are moved by its wholehearted pursuit of life. In the structure and form of her plays, she almost entirely abandons linear storytelling and character dialogue, even dispensing with settings, character names, and stage directions. She deliberately leaves actors and directors to piece the work together. Rather than finding an analytical framework in the script, actors must immerse themselves fully in its emotional world and establish a genuine connection with their characters. Sex, violence, cruelty and death are common themes and symbols in her works.

Synopsis:
The desire of love, the desire of the future
Following its productions of Sand and a Distant Star and The Pillowman, Windmill Grass Theatre presents another powerful theatrical work, CRAVE. For this production, Windmill Grass Theatre’s Joey LEUNG, Luna SHAW and Edmond TONG join forces with the internationally acclaimed local theatre company Theatre du Pif and the dynamic actor Birdy WONG to bring audiences a poetic and cruel theatrical experience!
About the play: A woman who desires a child had her eyes on a young man; at the same time, a woman on her menstrual cycle caught another man’s eye! Just as they desire to love and to be loved, their ego were freed from from their deepest desire. “Only love can save me and love has destroyed me!” CRAVE was seen as Sarah Kane’s most mature work, where she abandoned realism in her writing, using only A, B, C and M as code names of the characters, Through monologues on the characters’ past, the love and hate between people was candidly presented and the poetic dialogues portray the strongest and most complicated emotions of humans.
